Members Meeting
The members’ meeting took place on Thursday 28th October and was attended by 70 members. A presentation was given on the Equality Act 2010 and the impact on Subscriptions. The club has made clear its intention to comply with the Act as soon as possible.
The main points were:-
The need to bring parity to the subs of ladies and gents, and with it fair access to the course.
- Loyalty discounts may be given but cannot be restricted by age.
-The growing need to compete on subs with our neighbouring clubs.
- We can still offer discounts for certain types of members, provided the different treatment of this group of people is to achieve a legitimate aim, such as to encourage an increase in participation amongst that group, or to overcome a disadvantage they suffer.
A Cautionary Tale
During a recent round of golf with friends at Hornsea, a colleague mishit his tee shot and subsequently played a provisional ball. Thinking this was the ball he was going to continue with, I hit my second shot and walked on. He wandered off into the trees to look for his original ball, but was unsuccessful. He then shouted that it was lost and that he was going to play his provisional ball. I was 30 yards away and on hearing his shout, moved to the side where I thought I would be safe. I turned to see the ball just as it hit me. I took the full force on the side of the head with my glasses taking the impact.
The result was a trip to Hospital for treatment for a 3cm cut to the side of my eyebrow. It could have been much, much worse. So please don’t walk in front of your playing partners and don’t play a shot if someone is in front of you. I was lucky but you may not be!

Bar Card System Revision
The system of charging a Bar Card deposit is to be reintroduced next year. £50 will be added to the invoice for subscriptions for 2011 and, when paid, will be credited to your Bar Card account. If you do not wish to have a Bar Card and receive the discounts available then please delete the ‘Bar Deposit’ from your invoice and pay the Subscription only.
Members paying by Fairway Credit must inform Maxine in the office by 1st December if they do not wish to participate further in the bar card scheme. In this case their current bar cards will be valid until 1st February after which date they will be cancelled and any balances forfeited.
Members who do not wish to participate in the bar card scheme will be able to use their cards until 1st February, 2011 by which time their balances should be used up. After that date outstanding amounts will be forfeited and the cards cancelled
All Members who pay the £50 credit onto their card will continue to receive the benefits of a bar discount as before; but from January may also add extra top-up deposits to their cards in multiples of £10 (over and above their bar spend), that can then be transferred towards the following year’s subscription at the end of 2011.
