Greens News - May 2017
6 June 2017

Through March and April low rainfall, high winds and at times freezing temperatures was the norm.  Growth as you would expect was limited with such adverse conditions causing the plant to shut down and conserve energy.  When possible we sprayed liquid tonics or feeds to improve growth. It wasn’t until mid-May that the first granular feed was applied (7:0:14 + 4%fe) coinciding with a warm wet week.  The greens responded very well with the added nutrition and improving weather.  The following week, the greens where verticut cleaning up any lateral growth thus improving ball roll.  An application of seaweed and plant growth regulator (primo max) was sprayed to reduce vertical growth, poa seeding and increase density.

We have had an issue with the irrigation control panel which is taking some time to rectify.  With thanks to another Golf Club a second hand one has been sourced and is awaiting the engineer to supply and fit.  This will enable us to resume irrigating through the night.  However, irrigation is there to keep the plant alive and not to keep the greens soft and green!

Finally, when time and wind allows we have in stock a selective herbicide and soluble fertilizer for the tees and fairways.
