Greens News - May 2018
30 May 2018
May has been a very busy month trying to catch up completing winter works. The new bunkers have been filled with sand and opened for play. I suspect that they will be a little soft as I would have hoped to have completed the winter work much earlier but for the poor weather.
This month we have solid tined the greens with 8mm to a depth of 75mm. We have verticut and top dressed with 10 tonnes (approx.) to smooth the surface. A high quality slow release (14 weeks) granular fertiliser was also applied, however we experienced irrigation problems while trying to wash in and maintain the greens moisture levels. This included electrical decoder faults, pump fail (thanks to Darrell Slingsby for your assistance) and even Tadpoles blocking the suction filter. We are working hard to resolve these issues but in time may require significant investment in the system.
At present we are in full cutting mode. Just to give you an indication of our mowing regime per week;
Greens – daily – 3.5 hours each
Tees – twice per week – 8 hours each
Surrounds – twice per week – 4 hours each
Fairways – twice per week – 8 hours each
Semi Rough – twice per week – 8 hours each
Rough – once per week – 30 hours
Practice Grounds – once per week – 4 hours
Pond Banks – once per week – 8 hours
Flymo, edge bunkers – fortnightly – 40 hours
Ditch Banks – fortnightly – 10 hours
Copses – fortnightly – 40 hours
Strimming – as often as possible
Other tasks;-
Changing holes, edge fairway discs, markers, divot bags, bins, ball washers, blow/collect clippings, spraying, breakdowns, repairs, servicing ……. The list goes on!!
Quick word of thanks to Lindsay Ward and Steve Robinson for their heather planting around the Clubhouse and Professional Shop. Also to Howard Palmer for the donation of his old Atco lawn mower, which should prove useful for edging fairways in the winter.
Also welcome to Adam Bodsworth who is helping out while we are without Terry Cutts as he is recovering from knee surgery.
Rainfall 32mm
